Historic woodcarving has long been used to add depth, detail and character to furniture and architectural work. In this masterclass, participants will be introduced to the principles and techniques that underpin traditional carving.

Led by master carver Georgy Metichian, the session will explore how decorative forms are developed, including the use of classical motifs such as acanthus. Through demonstration and guided explanation, participants will gain insight into tool use, carving approach and the process of bringing ornament to life in wood.

This session is designed as an accessible introduction, offering a clear starting point for those new to carving, as well as useful insight for those looking to deepen their understanding of traditional methods.
