Woodcarving has long been used to create decorative detail in furniture and architectural elements. In this course, participants will develop practical skills in traditional carving, working through the process of shaping and refining ornament in wood.

Focusing on classical forms, including acanthus and flowing decorative motifs, the course will explore how carved elements are built up through controlled cuts, tool selection and an understanding of form. Participants will learn how to approach carving with confidence, developing accuracy and control through sustained hands-on practice.

Georgy Metichian is a master carver with extensive experience in historic woodcarving and restoration. His teaching draws on traditional techniques and methods, helping participants understand both the practical and aesthetic aspects of the craft.

By the end of the course, participants will have completed their own carved piece to take away. All materials are provided, and access to the Marketplace is included as part of the experience.
