The cricket table is a classic form of English vernacular furniture, known for its simple construction and distinctive three-legged design. In this course, participants will make their own cricket table, working through the key stages of layout, shaping and joinery.

At the heart of the process is geometry. Using simple layout methods, participants will learn how to set out a stable three-legged form, where balance and strength come from proportion as much as construction. The course also introduces traditional joinery techniques, including mortise and tenon joints, used to bring the structure together with accuracy and confidence.

No two tables are ever the same. Each participant will develop their own version of the form, shaped by their decisions, approach and making process.

Derek Jones is a furniture maker and former editor of Furniture & Cabinetmaking, with a long-standing interest in traditional forms and design. His teaching draws on both practical experience and a deep understanding of furniture history and construction.

By the end of the course, participants will have completed their own piece to take away. All materials are included in the course fee, and access to the Marketplace is included as part of the experience.
