The Quiet Workshop
The Quiet Workshop is a dedicated chairmaking and stoolmaking workshop in Great Wilbraham, near Cambridge, run by chairmaker StJohn Starkie.
Through hands-on courses, StJohn teaches people to make their own traditional wooden chairs and stools, from introductory stoolmaking projects to more involved side chairs and armchairs.
His approach combines traditional chairmaking skills with a particular interest in the relationship between timber, strength and construction, creating chairs that are light, strong and made to last.
