Traditional upholstery is built on layers of natural materials and careful handwork, creating both comfort and durability. In this course, participants will learn the foundations of hand-stuffed upholstery through the making of a traditional cushion.

Students will be introduced to upholstery materials and the process of building structure through stuffing, shaping and stitching. The course focuses on understanding how materials behave and how they are combined to create form and resilience.

Rachael South is an upholsterer and teacher specialising in traditional upholstery techniques. Her teaching emphasises material understanding, craftsmanship and the continuation of heritage skills.

By the end of the course, participants will have completed their own piece to take away, with all materials provided and access to the Marketplace included as part of the experience.
