Discover the rich tradition of Italian Renaissance marquetry, where images, depth and perspective are created entirely from wood veneer. In this hands-on course, participants will learn how carefully selected veneers can be used to build light, shadow and composition in pictorial marquetry.

Students will begin with fundamental cutting techniques before progressing to more detailed work, including sand shading, kerf-filling and the creation of decorative motifs and pictorial inlays. The course introduces the principles behind traditional intarsia while giving participants practical experience in cutting, assembling and composing veneer work.

Frank Strazza is an internationally respected marquetry artist and teacher whose work is inspired by the great Italian Renaissance tradition. Through his teaching, he shares both the technical skill and artistic understanding required to produce refined pictorial marquetry.

By the end of the course, participants will have completed their own piece to take away, with all materials provided and access to the Marketplace included as part of the experience.
